Our favorite, soulful folk group returns to Santa Fe for a free performance as part of Thirsty Ear Day on the Plaza. The next night, Po' Girl plays a special unplugged, catered event at Thirsty Ear founder Mike Koster's home. Come hang out with Allison & Awna. Enjoy a catered meal, small batch NM wines and beers, and a very intimate evening of music.
Po' Girl formed innocently enough back in 2002 with the sole intent of singing creaky old jazz songs. Two years later, the duo had evolved into a quintet of multi-instrumentalists boasting rustic gypsy fiddle, sultry Cajun love songs, Depression-era jazz, moving blues and spirituals. World tours and prestigious festival gigs (including a triumphant 2006 performance at the Thirsty Ear Festival) followed. Like their spiritual sisters The Be Good Tanyas, gorgeous vocal harmonies are a central feature of the band's timeless sound. Po' Girl's third disc, the critically acclaimed Home to You, was released early this year. Santa Fe has become a favorite stop on the never-ending Po' Girl tour; welcome back girls.
Big thanks to Rick Thaler & OGB Architectural Millwork for supporting Po' Girl's performances.
