New Mexico's premier roots music festival kicks off each year at the famous Eaves Movie Ranch near Santa Fe, where many westerns have been filmed. In addition to three days of internationally acclaimed roots music on multiple stages all weekend long, the festival boasts camping, kids' activities, healthy food, NM microbrews & wines, and local crafts. Kids under 12 get in free, so bring the young ones and turn them on to great music. There's plenty of opportunity for a cool drink in the saloon and to get out of the sun, but the main stage is outdoors. So remember to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, blankets, umbrellas, warm clothes for the evening and anything else you might need for an outdoor event. We do not allow tents, coolers, alcohol, glass, cameras or pets. We care about our patrons' health; the Thirsty Ear Festival is a non-smoking event! Like any festival, our lineup is subject to change. We'll see you out at the ranch. Thanks for supporting live music!
On Friday, admission is $1 and two cans of food. Our annual food drive for the needy kicks off at 6:30 with TRIO JALAPENO, perhaps the best-known group playing traditional New Mexico folk music and one of the region's most beloved acts. This followed by the toe-tappin' western swing of SOUTH BY SOUTHWEST and smokin' blues by RYAN McGARVEY, and "tweener" sets by JENNY GAMBLE and others. Special thanks to the Santa Fe New Mexican for sponsoring the food drive for two years running.
Following on the heels of last year's superb set, Saturday features the gorgeous alt-folk harmonies of THE BE GOOD TANYAS. And we're jazzed to present the roadhouse Americana of ROBERT EARL KEEN, a perfect match for the festival's setting. The day also boasts world-class Zydeco by ROSIE LEDET & THE ZYDECO PLAYBOYS, deep blues by JOE LOUIS WALKER & THE BOSSTALKERS and GUY DAVIS, and road songs by singer-songwriter TODD SNIDER. On the Old Hotel Stage, THE BE GOOD TANYAS play a second, intimate, unplugged set later in the evening, bouzouki master ROGER LANDES presents a demonstration on Celtic music, and the best local talent including LAST TO KNOW, BOUZOUKI EXPLOSION, and bluegrassers HIGHER GROUND play "tweener" sets all day.
On Sunday we're proud to welcome Texas supergroup THE FLATLANDERS, featuring JIMMIE DALE GILMORE, JOE ELY and BUTCH HANCOCK. Have your dancing shoes in toe when the greatest Cajun band on the planet, BEAUSOLEIL, takes the stage. Also on Sunday's Main Stage: singer-songwriter ELIZA GILKYSON, festival favorite COREY HARRIS with his full blues band, and RICHARD JOHNSTON (if you like jumpin' country blues, do NOT miss Richard's set). On the Old Hotel Stage, BeauSoleil frontman MICHAEL DOUCET presents an interactive, kid-friendly demonstration on Cajun music and history. Thanks to WESTAF and the National Endowment for the Arts for supporting Michael's appearance. Also on the Old Hotel Stage, part two of ROGER LANDES' Celtic Music demo-concert and "tweener" sets by local artists including JERRY FAIRES.
