Two of New Mexico's most popular bands, alt-country quartet HUNDRED YEAR FLOOD and blues rockers the ALEX MARYOL BAND, tear up the festival's main stage on this special evening of music to benefit the needy. Opening the evening is festival regular CHIPPER THOMPSON, who will be joined by fellow bouzouki enthusiasts MASON BROWN & ROGER LANDES for a typical "Taos, New Mexico Appalachian Mississippi Delta Arabic slide bouzouki" romp. The Grand Hotel stage will also be rocking with local bands. It's all part of a massive Friday-night food drive for the needy. Entrance is free with two cans of food ($10 if you don't bring food.)

SATURDAY, SEPT. 3

RICKIE LEE JONES, one of the most impressive vocalists and songwriters of her generation, will headline a day that includes OTIS TAYLOR BAND, Texas roots rocker JAMES McMURTRY & the Heartless Bastards, soulman EARL THOMAS and one of Nashville's finest up-and-coming alt-country duos, THE BELIEVERS.

For those who like to stay up late, New Mexico's own RAISING CANE will host a late-night bluegrass stomp on the Saloon Stage and bluesman STAN HIRSCH will host the late-night blues jam right across the street in the Grand Hotel.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 4

The greatest Cajun band on the planet, BEAUSOLEIL avec Michael Doucet, will headline a day that includes ALVIN YOUNGBLOOD HART's blues-rock band (Alvin will also host Sunday's late-night blues jam at 10pm on the Grand Hotel Stage), gutbucket roots music by the TARBOX RAMBLERS, bluesmen CHRIS DRACUP & TOMMY ELSKES, and the gorgeous alt-folk of NELS ANDREWS & the El Paso Eyepatch. Twangy roots rock weirdness follows as JOE WEST & Friends host the late night Americana jam on the Saloon Stage.

New Mexico's premier roots music festival kicks off each year at the famous Eaves Movie Ranch near Santa Fe, where many westerns have been filmed. In addition to three days of internationally acclaimed roots music on three stages all weekend long, the festival boasts tasty BBQ, local microbrews, fine wine, crafts, camping and more. Special thanks to the Santa Fe Children's Museum for setting up two days' of kids' activities, from 3pm to 8pm on Saturday and Sunday, with face painting and hands-on arts activities.

There's plenty of opportunity for a cool drink in the saloon and shade is abundant, but the main stage is outdoors. So please don't forget to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, blankets, warm clothes for the evening and anything else you might need for an outdoor event. We do not allow tents, coolers, alcohol, glass, cameras or pets. Like any festival, our lineup is subject to change.

HUGE THANKS TO THESE SPONSORS FOR MAKING THE MUSIC POSSIBLE.

THIRSTY EAR FESTIVAL raises more than $3200 to benefit displaced New Orleans musicians.

The highlight of the 6th annual Santa Fe THIRSTY EAR FESTIVAL on Labor Day Weekend was a spirited set by the great Cajun band BeauSoleil. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the band had taken up the cause of New Orleans musicians — many of whom are now homeless, with no means of supporting themselves — devastated by the disaster. Just before BeaSoleil's Sunday night set, the "bucket" circulated among the audience and staff, who contributed over $1,600. That amount was matched by Greg Eichman of Serious Grippage, a longtime festival supporter, for a grand total of more than $3,200 that will go to the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund.
